Goals & Objectives

To increase the quality of services to families as a direct result of mentorship
To foster the professional development of early supports and services and preschool special education personnel
To establish a minimum of 15 mentorships each year
To obtain research information on mentorship models and projects

Definitions

Mentorship

an opportunity to learn through a supportive relationship with a mentor
a one-on-one partnership that fosters reciprocal learning and sharing
an individually designed experience to meet specific needs

Mentor

has a specific expertise, knowledge, proficiency, or experience
has an understanding of Early Supports and Services or Preschool Special Education systems
is willing to support and guide another within a relationship
is paid $50 per hour for their time

Mentee

is seeking guidance in the process of meeting a specific professional goal
is interested in learning and reflecting within a trusting relationship
is receptive to feedback and coaching

Professional growth in a flexible, individually designed manner

Guidelines of Participation

Obtain support from employers regarding feasibility of program participation
Participate in orientation to determine goals and activities within a time frame
Receive a support from the Mentorship Program Coordinator as needed
Provide feedback and evaluation data
Share experience and resources with other service providers
